30% chance your Xbox 360 will break
There are many xbox 360 owners who have been stung by the evil 3 red lights (The ring of death), that happily informs unsuspecting xboxers that their beloved console is dead. But how far does this problem reach? (By the way I’ve had three xboxes).
An unnamed Microsoft employee has claimed that he or she has worked on the 360 project and has given some rather interesting insights of why so many machines have packed up their happy console life.
According to the article, “Red Ring of Death is caused by anything that fails in the ‘digital backbone’ on the mother board”.
This suggests that the failure isn’t limited to just one component failing. It can also apparently be triggered by a CPU problem, GPU error, bad memory, dodgy soldering and so on.
The highly irritating fact is, on one knows if their xbox 360 is waiting to die.
“The failure rate is around 30 per cent… There’s no way to tell when yours might die.” revealed the Microsoft source. Remember the cooler you can keep it, the longer it will probably last.
